Prof. Dr. Hatem Abu El-Qasim

Professor of Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Institute – Cairo University.

Dr. Hatem graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University (Kasr Al-Ainy) in 1988. He joined the National Cancer Institute in 1990 and obtained his Master’s degree in General Surgery in 1992 with an Excellent grade. He later earned the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK), followed by a Doctorate in General Surgery and a Doctorate in Surgical Oncology.

Since joining the Department of Surgery, Dr. Hatem has consistently distinguished himself with outstanding performance and steadily progressed through academic and administrative positions. He served as Director of the National Cancer Institute in 2014, Vice Director in 2016, then Dean of the National Cancer Institute in 2018, and most recently President of the Egyptian Society of Surgical Oncology.

Dr. Hatem has authored numerous scientific research papers and publications in international oncology journals. He is an active member of several surgical oncology societies worldwide and has supervised — and continues to supervise — many postgraduate students pursuing Master’s, Doctorate, and Arab Board degrees in Surgical Oncology.

He is considered one of the pioneers in performing robotic surgery, noting that the National Cancer Institute was among the first institutions to introduce robotic surgery in Egypt.

  • Kidney, prostate, and bladder cancer surgery
  • Uterine and ovarian cancer surgery
  • Breast cancer surgery
  • Thyroid and adrenal gland surgery

Dr. Hatem is highly skilled in performing surgeries using conventional techniques, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) methods, and robotic-assisted surgery.
